How We Design an Airbnb Around the Guest

When designing an Airbnb, it’s easy to focus on what looks good.

Beautiful furniture, stylish decorations, attractive colors, and great photos can certainly make a property stand out.

But for us, good design goes beyond appearance.

We design our properties around the people who will actually stay in them.

Every room, amenity, piece of furniture, and small detail should serve a purpose: helping guests feel comfortable, relaxed, and at home.

  • It Starts With Understanding the Guest

Before making design decisions, we think about who will be staying at the property.

Are they families traveling together? Couples looking for a getaway? Friends on vacation? Business travelers? Guests staying for several weeks?

    Different guests have different needs.

A family may need a comfortable dining area and enough seating for everyone. A group may appreciate spacious common areas. A long-term guest may need a functional kitchen and plenty of storage.

Designing around the guest means thinking about how they will actually use the home.

  • Comfort Comes Before Appearance

A property can look beautiful in photos, but if the furniture isn’t comfortable, the design has missed the point.

That’s why we pay attention to things guests interact with every day.

    Comfortable beds.

    Supportive pillows.

    Functional seating.

    Enough dining space.

    Good lighting.

    Convenient layouts.

A comfortable home allows guests to relax instead of constantly adjusting to the space.

  • We Think About How Guests Move Through the Property

Good design should make a home easy to use.

Guests shouldn’t have to wonder where something belongs or how to move from one room to another.

We consider the flow of the property and try to make everyday activities intuitive.

Where will guests put their luggage?

Where will they sit and relax?

    Where will they eat?

Where will they store their belongings?

    Where will they find towels?

    Where will they prepare meals?

The answers to these questions can influence everything from furniture placement to storage solutions.

  • The Kitchen Should Feel Functional

For many guests, the kitchen is an important part of the Airbnb experience.

Some guests will cook full meals. Others may simply make coffee or prepare breakfast.

Either way, the kitchen should feel practical and easy to use.

We think about having enough cookware, utensils, dishes, glasses, basic supplies, and counter space.

The goal isn’t to create a kitchen that simply looks good in photographs.

It’s to create one that guests can actually enjoy using.

  • Bedrooms Should Feel Like a Place to Rest

A bedroom should immediately communicate comfort.

Guests want to walk in and feel like they can relax after a long day of traveling or exploring.

We focus on comfortable bedding, quality pillows, clean linens, appropriate lighting, and enough space for guests to move around comfortably.

The bedroom doesn’t need to be extravagant.

It needs to feel peaceful, clean, and inviting.

  • We Pay Attention to Lighting

Lighting can completely change how a space feels.

Bright lighting can make a kitchen or workspace more functional, while softer lighting can make a living room or bedroom feel more relaxing.

We consider how guests will use each room throughout the day and evening.

Good lighting is both practical and part of the overall atmosphere of the home.

  • Outdoor Spaces Matter Too

When a property has an outdoor area, we see it as an extension of the home.

Comfortable outdoor furniture can give guests another place to eat, relax, enjoy their morning coffee, or spend time together.

Outdoor spaces don’t need to be complicated.

Sometimes a comfortable seating area, a table, good lighting, and a clean environment are enough to make the space useful and memorable.

  • We Design for Real Life

An Airbnb isn’t a showroom. Guests will cook, eat, sleep, unpack, relax, watch TV, spend time with family, and sometimes make a little mess.

    That’s normal.

Our design choices need to work for real life.

Furniture should be durable. Surfaces should be easy to maintain. Storage should be practical. Amenities should be accessible.

    A beautiful property that isn’t functional isn’t a successful guest-focused design.

Small Details Can Make a Big Difference

Sometimes it’s the smallest details that make guests feel comfortable.

A convenient place to charge a phone.

    Hooks for towels.

    Extra seating.

    Easy-to-find instructions.

A comfortable place to put luggage.

    Blackout curtains.

    A well-stocked kitchen.

These aren’t necessarily expensive additions, but they can make the property much easier to enjoy.

    We Learn From Guest Feedback

One of the best ways to improve a property is to listen to the people who actually use it.

Guest reviews and private feedback can reveal things we may not notice ourselves.

If guests repeatedly mention that they loved the outdoor seating, that’s useful information.

If they mention needing more kitchen supplies or additional storage, that’s an opportunity to improve.

Every stay gives us another perspective on how the property can work better.

Conclusion

Designing an Airbnb around the guest means putting their experience at the center of every decision.

It’s about choosing comfort over unnecessary decoration, functionality over complicated features, and thoughtful details over things that simply look impressive.

The best Airbnb design isn’t necessarily the most luxurious.

It’s the design that makes guests feel comfortable, makes the property easy to use, and helps create a stay they’ll remember.

Because ultimately, we’re not just designing a property. We’re designing an experience guests can feel at home in.
